The strength of any country lies in the quality of its education. In the United States, the public school system is where most students get their education. It used to be the backbone of American progress. It shaped generations who built industries, led innovation, and defended freedom. But today, too many classrooms are run by teachers who are either unqualified, distracted by ideology, or simply not doing their job.
Classrooms Turned into Political Platforms
Public schools are no longer focused on the basics. In too many classrooms, the attention has shifted from teaching reading, math, and science to pushing topics like gender identity, sexuality, and pronouns. These may be topics for discussion in broader society, but they should not dominate the school day. When students are struggling to read at grade level, teachers should not be organizing clubs about gender or planning lessons around social causes.
Recent Examples of Misplaced Priorities
In California, a teacher was recently fired for incompetence. She also happened to lead a school club centered on gender and sexuality, while her students were falling behind. That’s not just a failure of priorities, it’s a failure of responsibility. Then there’s the viral story of a teacher who took down the American flag and replaced it with a Pride flag, urging students to pledge allegiance to it. This crosses a line. Classrooms are for learning, not promoting personal ideologies.
The System Protects the Wrong People
One of the biggest problems is that the system protects these underperforming teachers. Tenure policies and union rules make it nearly impossible to remove them. Even when a teacher is clearly failing, firing them is rare. Meanwhile, students suffer, and year after year, they fall further behind.
What Made America Great? Education That Worked
The United States became a world leader because generations of students were taught by serious, competent teachers. They taught facts, not feelings. They demanded discipline, not distractions. They prepared kids for the real world, not for echo chambers. These teachers built a nation that led in innovation, industry, and military strength.
Now We’re Drifting
Instead of building strong minds, too many teachers now focus on pushing identity politics. The result is a generation that is more confused, less skilled, and unprepared for adult life. While other countries are doubling down on science and math, we are debating pronouns in English class. That’s not progress. That’s regression.
We Need to Get Back on Track
This is not a call to ignore respect or inclusivity. Every student should feel safe and valued. But that cannot come at the cost of education itself. Schools must return to their mission: teaching students the skills they need to succeed. That starts with hiring teachers who focus on academics, not activism. And it means holding them accountable when they fail.
The Future Is in the Classroom
The students sitting in desks today will shape the future of the country. If we keep letting incompetence slide, we are gambling with that future. We need teachers who are qualified, focused, and committed to real education. Our kids deserve better. And so does our country.
